Electronic Resource Recovery Council (ERRC)

Electronic Resource Recovery CouncilThe Electronic Resource Recovery Council includes representatives of computer manufacturers, recyclers, state agencies, local governments, major employers, and non-profit organizations. For ERRC Bylaws, click here.

The Council was formed in response to a growing concern regarding the impacts of disposing of hundreds of millions of electronic devices every year, many containing hazardous materials. The Council’s mission, goals, and strategies reflect a common appreciation of the current and potential benefits and liabilities of electronic technology, and a common acknowlegement of our commitment to the responsible management of electronic resources.

By sharing information, developing best management practices for the procurement, use, and disposition of electronic equipment, and by educating decision-makers and the general public, the Council aims to prolong the useful life of electronic resources, and give Texans who are ready to part with their old computers, cell phones, and other equipment a means of ensuring that they will be handled responsibly.

Mission, Goals & Strategies

Mission: To promote the responsible management of electronic resources in order to maximize their economic benefits and minimize their environmental liabilities in our global society.

Goals:

  • Establish an effective information exchange network involving electronic product manufacturers, users, and providers of disposition services for surplus and end-of-life equipment in Texas.
  • Improve regulatory compliance and increase the adoption of best management practices in all phases of electronic resource management.
  • Provide a mechanism for stakeholders in electronics resource recovery to address policy makers in the public, private and nonprofit sectors.

Strategies:

  • Provide face-to-face and electronic forums for members to share information and discuss e-cycling issues and E-Cycling Council activities.
  • Conduct educational activities through member presentations, an E-Cycling Council website, and other media.
  • Develop consensus standards for best management practices in electronic resource management; provide recognition for organizations that subscribe to these standards.
  • Monitor state legislative activity; provide input to the Texas Legislature on electronic resource management issues.
