Welcome to STAR!
On behalf of the STAR Board of Directors, it is with pleasure that we announce our selection of Jordan Fengel as STAR’s new Executive Director!
Growing up in Santa Cruz, California, the practices of environmentalism and recycling were ingrained early on in Jordan’s life. He moved to Texas in 2002 to pursue his childhood dream job of becoming a paramedic and did so, successfully spent over 12 years working in the emergency medical field.
While working in Austin as a paramedic, Jordan established an award-winning zero-waste program for his employer in tune with the City of Austin’s Universal Recycling Ordinance. This action is what helped Jordan decide to move from the stressful business world of medicine to involving himself in the resource management sector.
Jordan is a visionary leader who brings to STAR vast experience with municipal recycling programs as the Environmental Services Program Manager with the City of Georgetown. Jordan is also no stranger to the STAR community– he has served as chair and co-chair for STAR’s Texas Product Stewardship Council for three years, in which he helped to advance extended producer responsibility (EPR) initiatives in Texas, as well as work on pharmaceutical disposal solutions and advancing product stewardship.
The Board is confident Jordan’s skills and creative ideas will help take STAR to the next level. His passion for STAR’s mission will also successfully engage members, councils, sponsors, and assist in growing collaborative opportunities for advancing recycling in the state of Texas.
Jordan holds a B.S. in Environmental Management and holds certifications in composting, the circular economy, is a U.S. Zero Waste Business Council Associate, and a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success.
Jordan will officially join STAR on February 19, 2018– please join us in welcoming him!
